The story behind Bessie’s

Hello, I’m Aurelia, a proud mum of two busy boys, and the heart behind Bessie’s Rusks. At the age of seven, my parents and I moved to New Zealand. New Zealand has been my home for the last 21 years, it’s the place I’ve grown up, built my life, and now get to follow my dreams.

Baking and cooking have always been more than just hobbies to me — they are a part of who I am. Growing up, I always dreamed of having my own business one day. That dream was deeply inspired by my Ouma Bessie, who passed away when I was young. She was a baker her entire life and was especially known for mastering her buttermilk rusk recipe. The love, care, and tradition she poured into her baking left a lasting mark on me and continues to inspire everything I create today. The memories of Ouma Bessie teaching me all her baking secrets still hold a special place in my heart to this day.

When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll usually find me attempting to be a gardener or soaking up precious time with my two boys and amazing husband. Family, tradition, and homemade goodness are at the heart of Bessie’s Rusks — and I’m so grateful to share that with you. I hope you’ll give our rusks a try, I know you will love them.
